[Dinner is over and it's time to fully comprehend everything that's been said. You're stuck in this school whether you like it or not, but that doesn't mean you can't... try to enjoy yourself while you're here.
[Waking up the next day in the same place puts a particular dampener on Maria's spirits. Surely, then, this isn't just a particularly strange dream? Which means...which means a lot of different things that are upsetting.
Think. What would Grandfather do? Well...he'd want her to keep her head up, that's the first thing. So. Deal with the issues, if she can, one at a time.
She shivers, the thin and barely-there blanket around her shoulders as she visits the dorms, politely knocking and looking rather pathetic really.]
Um, excuse me, but does this room happen to have extra blankets? Or...nicer ones? Oh, or maybe has someone found a place to get some? Someone's bound to catch themselves a death of cold like this.
[Ha, haha, and it definitely won't be her or anything!
Later, after trying to flatten out her hair and mostly getting it fingercombed through, it's time to do more exploring. While being very, very careful where she steps. In particular, she finds herself looking for the nurse's office and gives a cry at the state of it.]
Oh my goodness! This is just...terrible! [She's not touching that thank you!
She's winded by the time she makes it up to the sunroom, but at least she finds herself smiling a bit more at the sight.]
A little work, and this might actually be a nice room! Oh...maybe with a garden!
Mmhm! [She nods enthusiastically, though takes a moment to catch her breath, thinking.] Maybe instead of learning about "villainy" [and she even uses scary air quotes] we can all get together with some rags and buckets and clean up this school! Surely Mr. One wouldn't see anything wrong with that. He's the one that didn't bother to put any effort into it in the first place.
That's a good idea. If he's not going to do anything to make this a livable place, then we all should. We don't know for how long we'll have to stay here, after all.
[Living in filth is only going to make everyone feel worse]
Though if we leave here, I don't know where we'd go. [But don't let the bad thoughts catch up! Focus on the positive.] So cleaning is our only option if we're all going to live here without getting hurt or sick.
When you're captive any place is better than your prison.
[...well, almost any place]
This is exciting! I haven't gotten the experience of cleaning something yet. The thought of this entire academy being the first time I will do this...it's a challenge!
I was never allowed to do such a thing. Everyone used to be rather insistent about it.
[Because it was the servants' job and Sonia was told she shouldn't bother herself with such tasks -- because she had other things to be doing, focus on those, Sonia]
Oh... [It's a little sad, isn't it? Although, if it's just cleaning--] I can only do so much myself, mostly just picking up after myself in my room, but I try to help where I'm allowed to.
Oh, unless! Are you someone important, and that's why?
That's correct! [Sonia seems flattered about the excitement Maria is showing] I live in a castle and although my kingdom is small, it's peaceful and charming.
I've never met a real princess before! [Or seen a castle or visited a kingdom or--] Oh, then this place must seem especially awful, all dirty and run-down and so far from your people!
It is not as bad as it seems! My status means I often don't have a chance to interact with other people freely. Just being around you all compensates the lacking accomodations.
That's such...a nice way of looking at it! I've been around a lot of the same people most of my life, so it's always nice to meet someone new! I just wish the circumstances weren't so very strange.
Mm. [It's a noise of agreement, sure, but Maria doesn't look as certain, pushing some hair back behind her ear.]
That might be nice. Though I'm sure we all have homes to get back to. But...oh, when would we ever have the chance to get to know each other in a normal way otherwise?
[It's a terrible thought, of not being able to return home. But... She brings her hands up to her chest.]
...Can I tell you something? I miss home terribly, but...things weren't going well, before I woke up here. I don't...know what would happen if I went back.
Are you uncertain if returning to your home is the right thing to do?
[Boy does she sympathize with Maria. If Sonia returned to Novoselic after everyone in the island woke up...well she sure doubts anyone will receive her with open arms]

[It's nice to be encouraging towards others, too]
Well, I do am the princess of my country -- Novoselic.
